Farmingdale Student American Dental Hygienists' Association

SADHA is the student branch of the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA). Farmingdale State College's SADHA organization participates in, and has initiated, several programs that serves the community and increases oral health awareness.

One of the events the students recently participated in was Give Kids a Smile Day where students volunteered locally at either Stony Brook University, The Cradle of Aviation, or at Farmingdale State College. On this nationally honored day in February, we invited children from local schools to come in for a dental prophylaxis, sealants, and oral screenings.

Throughout the school year we treat children from local schools, through Head Start, and provided them with oral screenings, fluoride varnish, and a prophylaxis.

In late fall, we assisted Nassau County Dental Society in hosting a special event at Belmont racetrack where we provided free oral cancer screenings.  SADHA also provided free oral cancer screenings at our care center during the Great American Smoke-out.

In November, we had our 4th annual Give a Marine a Smile Day, during which time our dental hygiene students and faculty packed up 1000 oral hygiene kits, created from supplies donated by Colgate.  The items were shipped to active service men & women abroad

We also attend local soup kitchens to donate oral hygiene kits and educate the guests regarding oral hygiene.

SADHA also holds fund-raisers throughout the school year to help support our community events and our pinning ceremony.  At these fund raisers we sell toothbrushes & whitening strips at a phenomenal discounted price.
